Rockstar Co-Founder’s Comic Set for an Exciting New Edition in 2026

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser’s new comic book, American Caper, is getting a fresh edition next year. Houser, who spent more than two decades as a leading creative force at Rockstar Games, departed the studio shortly after releasing what many consider his magnum opus: Red Dead Redemption 2. That acclaimed open-world epic explored the fall of the outlaw era and the inner struggles of a man confronting the consequences of his past.

While many expected Houser to move on to writing Grand Theft Auto VI, he exited Rockstar before contributing to the project. Instead, he began a new chapter of his career at his own company, Absurd Ventures, where he’s now focused on crafting original stories—American Caper among them.

After years of buildup, Absurd Ventures is finally beginning to deliver its first wave of projects. Dan Houser is developing two new video games at the studio, along with a variety of non-gaming ventures. His latest creation is American Caper, a comic book that channels a gritty slice of Americana, spotlighting the shady underbelly of rural America. The story carries Houser’s signature voice—darkly funny, filled with flawed characters, and reminiscent of a more intimate, small-scale GTA narrative. The first issue debuted in November and has been met with strong praise from both longtime Rockstar fans and general comic book readers.

Dan Houser’s American Caper Set for Collected Edition Paperback Release in 2026

If you prefer to binge-read comics once several issues are out, you’re in for a treat. American Caper is getting a collected paperback edition next year. Titled American Caper Volume 1: Red-Pilled Blues, the trade will bundle the first four issues into a single volume. It’s set to release on June 23, 2026, for $19.99, with pre-orders now available through Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and local comic book shops.

If you don’t want to wait for the collected edition, you can continue grabbing each issue as it drops. Issue #2 arrives on Christmas Eve, with new installments following monthly. Keep in mind that Issue #5—scheduled for release in March, before the collection launches—won’t be included in Volume 1, so waiting for the paperback may leave you slightly behind in the story. Even so, it’s an exciting release for fans and will almost certainly be followed by additional volumes.
